Grey Francis grew up on an apple orchard and draft horse farm outside of Yosemite, CA. After moving to Washington and attending the Evergreen State College, Grey returned to a rural lifestyle, this time in a valley at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. He has worked as a sign painter, designer, and now a tattoo artist specializing in naturalist imagery. He has a passion for the living world, taking care to render plants and animals with scientific accuracy.

Grey’s work reframes the conventional approach to botanical specimens. Treating his subjects with the intimacy of portraiture, his paintings pull the viewer closer to experience the details. Grey's current work focuses on plants in their senescence, using watercolors to delicately convey the fragility and resilience of the botanical kingdom.
